The Maha-kalpa embraces an untold number of periods far back in the antediluvian ages. This system comprises a Kalpa (or grand period of 4,320,000,000 years), which is divided into yugas:

  • Satya yuga – 1,728,000 years (golden age)
  • Tretya yuga – 1,296,000 years (silver age)
  • Dvapa yuga – 864,000 years (bronze age)
  • Kali yuga – 432,000 years (iron/dark age)
  • Together they make one divine age or Maha-yuga
